Map Legend
Clicking on the Legend button gives you access to the individual data layers that are available at this time. The checkbox to the left of a layer name indicates whether that layer is displayed in the current map view. Using these checkboxes, you can customize which data you want displayed.
Once you have chosen your data, click on the Redraw Map button, located beneath the legend, to update your changes.

Disaster Information
Clicking on the Disaster Info button provides you with useful information about tsunamis, how to donate to relief efforts, and what Canada (and other countries) are doing to help the victims of this tragedy.

Quick Map Viewing
The Select a Country dropdown allows you to focus the map on a specific country of interest in one simple step. Just click on the down arrow and choose a country.

The "Select a Map" dropdown allows you to quickly change to several pre-made maps of the overall data set. Just click on the down arrow and choose a map to view.

Mapping Tools
There are several tools provided to ask for information about specific areas you see on the map or change which part of the disaster area is displayed on-screen. Only one of these tools is active at any one time - to activate a tool, click on its button. You can always tell which tool is currently active because its button has a dark grey background.

The Identify Feature tool allows you to click on any affected country and get data about its number of fatalities, population, etc., or click on any marker to access additional disaster-related information.

The Zoom In tool allows you to focus on a specific, smaller region of the disaster area. Click the Zoom In button and then either click the map near the center of the region you are interested in or click-and-drag a rectangle surrounding the area. The Zoom In tool can be used multiple times to move closer and closer to desired regions.

The Zoom Out tool allows you to focus on a larger area of the map than is currently displayed. Click the Zoom Out button and then click the map near the center of the larger region you are interested in. The Zoom Out tool can be used multiple times to view larger and larger regions.

The Zoom to Full Extents tool allows you to quickly reset the current map view to the entire disaster area. There is no need to click on the map to activate this tool - it is activated as soon as you click the Zoom to Full Extents button.

The Pan Map tool allows you to move the center of the viewing area without changing the scale of the map. Click the Pan Map button and then click and drag the map image to recenter it. The best way to see how this tool works is to just try it.
